Training Update

January Mileage: 70 Miles! | This has been my highest mileage month in ages. I’ve also kept up with my strength training as well as core work and yoga. I’ve been building back up my base while using the upper and lower body training to help strengthen the muscles I’ve injured before. I have a finicky IT band (2013’s injury) and hip flexor (this past summer’s injury). So I’m trying to keep myself healthy while I build my endurance back up.

All of these training runs have been done at a slow pace for me- between 10 and 10:15 again to prep for upcoming half marathon training. I spent a lot of them on the treadmill as we’ve not had the best weather this month and because it’s dark when I get up and dark when I get home. Our nearby path isn’t lit so running after dark alone is not something I’m interested in taking on.

I will say a few of these runs have been mentally tough. I have to chant to myself that I can do it, I can push through to get my end result. I know I want to hit that sub 2 hour half marathon and hopefully (fingers crossed) as I embark on Rock n Roll Nashville training starting today!

I’ll check back in at the end of February with an update on my progress. In the interim I’m running the Blacksburg Classic 10 Miler as it lines up with one of my 10 mile days. I’m not going to race but use it as a training run. Hopefully it won’t be too hilly!!!
