Bird Meet-ups!

September 10, 2016 – Salem Lake, NC
September 17, 2016 – Clarendon, VA

In just over a week this past September I got to spend time with what I consider to be my two local bird teams. I live in VA- but far from where most activities take place so I hadn’t met most of my official teammates but my family lives in NC so I’m there enough (and it only takes an hour to get to the border) so the NC team is my adopted team.

First up was a meetup in Winston Salem at Salem Lake. Now I know many people would consider me crazy to drive almost 2 hours for a run and brunch but hey this was as close as a meetup as I can get from the mountains so I was only too happy to make the drive. I got up early packed a little change of clothes and then set out to Winston. I was one of the last to arrive but hey I made it in time! Unfortunately I hadn’t run in about a week as I was nursing a pretty sore ankle so I ended up getting in my run alone, just a short 3 miler, and then hung out while everyone trickled in from making the 7 mile loop. Brunch was at the Famous Toastery where we all proceeded to chow down. I got to meet a lot of the birds I follow online in person! It was a really fun morning and I’m so glad I took the time to go. There’s another planned in this area in January and I’ve already marked my calendar! Excited!

Then a week later I drove up to DC to visit with my friend JJ and also run the Clarendon Day 5K. You can read all about the race recap here. And after I got to go to brunch with the DMV team! Again lots of ladies I follow online but had never met in person. It was nice to meet them and finally have a meetup with my own team! The more time I spend with Oiselle, the happier I am that I took the chance to join such a great group of women!
