NC- from Coast to Coast

North Carolina | December 19-30, 2015 | So we’ve gone coast to coast during our holiday visits. We started out in Wilmington for a weekend of xmas activities and visiting with family and ended up in Waynesville exploring breweries.

Wilmington- Jon arrived via flight from Chicago and I came down with my parents from Raleigh. I’d made the journey from Blacksburg the night before with all of our stuff. We spent the afternoon hanging out at my grandmother’s house before the family arrived for xmas activities. Once everyone gets there it’s like 50 people in not that large of space- so a lot going on. We did a cousin’s exchange this year so as not to be a burden on all the relatives and it was fun. 🙂 We also stuffed our faces with lots of tasty foods and desserts. Sunday dawned with a Wilmington beach run before another large family meal. We broke out Telestrations and enjoyed playing with everyone before heading back up to Raleigh.

Raleigh- We spent the week visiting with friends and family. On Monday we had lunch with Caitlin, Kevin, JJ and Kevin. We ate at a cute mediterranean place in Morrisville and caught up since the last time we were together in June. After family dinner we headed out to North Raleigh for drinks with Tim and Aly at Tribeca Tavern and then ended the evening at Sawmill Taproom with Caitlin and Kevin again. Tuesday was spent shopping with my mom while Jon had lunch with an old co-worker and then we headed to fish fry for dinner with the whole family. After dinner we met up with Andrew and Eric at World of Beer in Cary and traded stories over tasty beers. Wednesday started off with some online work at lunch at home before we headed over to my aunt & uncle’s to hang out and catch up for awhile. Then we met up with my bestie, Kristi and her hubs Jimmy for dinner out in Apex. Delicious BBQ and hushpuppies were had by all. After that we finished off the night at Craft Public House near home with Kate and Matt, finding out more details about their wedding and again catching up. Thursday was all Xmas eve, all the time. More eating, present opening, game playing and church attending. And then of course we did Xmas morning with my parents and grandparents before getting on the road to Waynesville. So many wonderful gifts and a delicious breakfast before loading up and heading out.

Waynesville- We made good time and arrived in Waynesville by about 3:30pm. First unloading and then more present opening before the extended family came over for dinner, more presents and the annual viewing of Christmas Vacation. Saturday was full of errands, coloring (new toys!) and then soup night at one of Jon’s aunt & uncles house. On Sunday we had church- lessons and carols before heading home for tasty leftovers and some Colts football. Monday we finally got to see Star Wars (which was awesome) before heading to the Grove Arcade in Asheville to use my Bathe gift certificate before having lunch at Carmel. We stopped by the Asheville Running Company just to see if they had any Oiselle on sale (they didn’t) before heading home for more coloring and relaxing. We went to Boojum brewery for dinner and after a long wait finally got to eat! Sunday was full of Asheville breweries before the UNC-Baylor bowl game. Lots of laundry and packing commenced before Wednesday’s drive!

Overall a lovely holiday and was great to see so many friends and family!
